Congratulations to Sasha’s Bloc who have received the latest BEAT100 Ultimate Musician Award! The jazz and swing band based in California, USA are focussed on reviving the Jazz culture of the 1920s, 30s and40s. The BEAT100 newcomers have impressed the A&R team with their smooth original track ‘Sunday Blues’ which has been awarded a Gold Favourite, Silver song and Bronze Video Award. The track has a timeless sound that harks back to a classic Jazz era and the charismatic, mellow vocals of guest singer JaneMonheit pull the listener in and immediately transports them to a 1920s Jazz bar. Sasha’s Bloc comprises of an eclectic group of musicians bought together by founder and bassist Alex Gershman. Alex, originally from Moscow, Russia, has a lifelong passion for music and even says that he was singing melodies before he could speak! He tells BEAT100 ‘I always had a great ability to hear music and wanted to express myself in my own songs. Two years ago, I started writing lyrics and music, and the responses I got from fans were incredible.’ After such a positive reaction to his musical creations, Alex was inspired to continue writing and to eventually record a whole album, inspired by musical greats such as Fats Waller, Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra.
